Bicycle Doctor Workshop

Hi Eddies,

After the Bicycle Doctors great success last year. We are looking forward to our second year.  Our resources are still limited, but we accumulated tools and bike parts last year. Due to generous donations from leaving students, we had a couple of bikes that we sold on to freshers. The profits will be used to upgrade our tool collection. The college is providing us with more bikes and parts when the bike sheds will be cleaned.

During term time, the Bike Doctors are going to service and repair bikes for free in front of Norfolk Building on saturdays  between noon and 3.00 pm. If you are really in an urgency, contact one of the bike doctors, maybe we can help out on special appointment.

If people are interested in helping with tools, donations or their skills, they are more than welcome. If you have questions or you want to offer your help, please contact Glenn Harris or Tim Rademacher at ttr22@cam.ac.uk.

We are looking forward to seeing you,

Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University Radio is going FM

Press Release

CUR1350 has been awarded an FM License. The student radio station for Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin Universities, was awarded a community FM licence on Tuesday 17th March 2009, after broadcasting on AM wavelength to Cambridge since 2001.

There’s never been a better time to get involved, since the station has big plans to revolutionise student life in Cambridge, aiming to be the number one place for information for all students, from societies and sports teams to advice and up and coming events and live music. The new project will launch on FM radio in Fresher’s 2010. Until then, it will continue to be broadcast on 1350AM and online at www.cur1350.co.uk .

So whether you fancy yourself as a budding radio DJ, talk show host, or even a ‘behind the scenes’ role in the committee. (And don’t worry if you will graduate before the CUR1350 intends to switch to FM – alumni can still remain involved in all aspects of the station.) go to www.cur1350.co.uk or email committee@cur1350.co.uk to find out more. And if you’re too lazy to do that, how about just giving it a listen, you never know, you might like what you hear.

Welcome to the new website

Dear St. Edmund’s,

As we approach the first weeks of the Easter term, I would like to thank the outgoing CR Central and Extended executives for their leadership and commitment to St. Edmund’s College over the past year.

Whether this is their final year at Cambridge or they plan to stay further, we wish them the best in their future endeavors.

The upcoming months at St. Edmund’s are sure to be very exciting and worthwhile. As exam term approaches, both academic and societal commitments are sure to increase. At St. Edmund’s, the upcoming months will show new initiatives and levels of support that the newly elected CR representatives will be working hard to develop. Such immediate developments include:

  • A comprehensive dining survey to be completed by all interested members
  • Increased peer support opportunities and services available to members
  • Enthusiastic student representation on College committees
  • CR Executive meeting times and dates will be posted in advance and all interested members encouraged to attend
  • More secure and open CR budget management
  • Increased communication between CR Executives and members, beginning with an updated CR notice board to include contact information of each CR representative
  • A comprehensive and fully updated website that will be actively promoted

This list is meant to relay only the most important and immediate actions of your new CR representatives and I personally invite all fellows and members to consider what role you would like the CR to play in your life at St. Edmund’s. In addition to the actions listed above, please look forward to an increase in College gatherings, bops, and social opportunities.

I would also like to bring to your attention that nominations for the 2009-2010 Extended Executive positions (more information posted in the CR) are being taken this week. Afxentis, Ananya, Sahar, Ola, and I wish each of you the best in the coming months and look forward to the opportunities and challenges that this CR committee has before it.

On behalf of the 2009-2010 CR leadership,

Joshua Ward

President
