Sudan’s Recent Political Development

Talk by Ahmed Al-shahi

The talk concentrates on Sudan’s political development since independence in 1956. In this portrayal certain important themes will be explored: The political role of successive civilian and military regimes in addressing democracy, ethnicity and development; The problem of cultural, tribal and political plurality; political representation of the diversity; the consequences of civil wars in the south and, more recently, in Darfur; peace agreement to solve armed conflict, and the legitimacy of the state.
